there's no shortage of places to go when looking for a fight. she'd known of their existence before her entanglement with KING WAYLAND, but the sheer amount of underground fighting rings dotting hoenn is nothing close to what she'd known when she was back on the council.

she is adorned in black. her starlit hair is sprayed over with drugstore hairspray, also black, and is gathered up in a tight, albeit messy, pony. there are still some who would besmirch her name if they found her in dregs like this.

she wipes sweat from her brow and glowers down at the knocked enemy. people are taking bets. most of the time they bet against her. now, though, after two down, and money's been lost, the tides are changing.

she shakes out her still throbbing hand. most of her maneuvers aren't full-on assaults. king's won enough times during their scrapping, chiding her over her not fighting smart for her to finally learn she can't use brute force like her damn salamence.

that hadn't stopped her from punching the last one in the face though.

it might come as a shock to most, but francie myrtle's quite the one on one boxer. how? why? when??? well, she might not favor fighting types, but after getting a kubfu from a massive tower challenge full of angst and drama, she's managed to get herself into a few classes.[break][break]

these few classes have taught her one thing; her small size makes her a tricky target and as long as she doesn't stop moving she'll be a hard on to knock out. however, she is also a little squishier than most. her stubbornness counters this, her teacher taught her.[break][break]

the teach isn't here today and it's just francie. francie and her need to keep her skills sharp. she bounces on her toes and puts in her mouth piece, hair pulled back and gloves on, her mouth bulges as the mouth piece fights against her lips.[break][break]

she hunches a bit, keeps her arms up, smirks like she knows something this other woman doesn't. does she? no, but she's been told that anything menacing on her face is a good enough distraction to get her the upper hand in a fight.[break][break]

after all, nobody expects sweet girl francie to be able to knock a motherfucker out, right?

even the sweetest of her dragons can be lethal. etherea is a fluffy cloud, but threaten her or her young and she'll leave you nothing but singed skin and bones.

it's taken time, but the muscles she'd lost in her exile in eternal winter have returned. daily trainings and a settling back into her routine have sharpened her. like a snake having shed its skin, she stands at the ready, glowering down at her adversary.

fernando's professional trainers had given her proper fighting-style instruction. king, though? king taught her ruthlessness. he taught her how to win.

so she's fast as she closes the distance between them, footwork delicate as she feints an overhead swing and then lashes out at the woman's ankles.

seeing the woman dart forward doesn't intimidate francie. instead, she relaxes her body. worst thing she could do would be to tense up. her muscles and body would hate her for eternity if she did that.[break][break]

she slides backwards just at the right second, barely missing those feet and watching as the woman goes straight for a trip. okay, fair. she flexes her fingers as she bounces in place a bit, pony-tail curling and bouncing as she does so.[break][break]

okay, my turn! she thinks, the way her brows go up and she is the one moving forward. she opens both of her palms and gives a loud, "ha!" as she thrusts her arms forward into the woman's diaphragm.[break][break]

her goal? to knock the wind out of the woman and give her an opening to pin the woman.

okay, noted. freya's jaw tenses, the corner of her lips twitching in a smile as newfound fervor shivers through her. her momentum carries through without interruption; the other could have swung out an used her momentum against her, but didn't.

she really is just kickboxing, freya realizes.

not clawing and fighting tooth and nail, hungry for blood. the edge is necessary, especially in places like this. her straw-blonde brows twitch and freya anticipates the move, sucking in a terse breath before the heavy blow makes contact with her chest.

she plants her feet, leaning forward against her, and does not give her ground. her muscles swell, waving though not panicking with the sudden loss of breath. after all, aerial combat is still technically her specialty.

one step closer in the girl's guard. she grunts as she ducks her head and shoves hard with her shoulder.

something like a pained squeal is muffled through francie's mouth guard. there's a giggle that follows, because francie's a lot of things but good at dealing with pain is one of them. she laughs. because to her it's funny, to her this is fun.[break][break]

sure she's elbows deep in another woman's personal bubble, but fights like this helped francie realize a long time ago that not everybody wants in your personal bubble for lewd reasons. different body languages say different things and this fight? it tells francie that this woman has really lived.[break][break]

a bright smile is across her face even as she's being thrown to the ground on her back. she braces for the impact enough that she doesn't get her own wind knocked out of her. she tries to find an opening, hoping that her small frame will give her one. she squirms and manages to stop the woman from getting a good hold on her outright.[break][break]

even still, she's no professional, and she definitely doesn't have the cutthroat experience that this woman has.[break][break]

lifting a hand, she taps. life has taught her a lot of things, and one of those things is to never be too proud to admit defeat before you can learn more and come back stronger for a rematch.

she expects a trick. that giggle comes forth instead of a pained grunt or a rush of air and freya fears the worst - a poisoned blade? a flipping of her body weight? but they hit the ground and freya doesn't have a mouth guard, so her teeth clatter and her jaw aches and she rears back real, real fast so she can pull up a punch.

her fist halters, though, because a counter-strike isn't coming. the crowd around them is booing. booing. she looks down, bewildered, and then springs off of the woman, offering a tentative hand up as men crack callous jokes about them.

a muscle in her cheek flicks and she snaps, whipping 'round to snarl in the face of a particularly uncouth individual. he doesn't wet his pants, but he shrinks noticeably, and that's good enough for her.

"you're in the wrong place," she mutters to the woman as she steps out of the circle and into the throng of bodies.

"nah," francie says with a beaming smile before looking to her opponent. "cause me? i'm just the distraction."[break][break]

a siren flares around them. that siren leads in several other rangers, flooding in and specifically going for the man that freya had basically snarled at. francie's beaming from ear to ear, the operation was a success, and she looks to freya curiously.[break][break]

"thanks for helping with the distraction. my name's francie."

freya experiences a lot of different emotions at once. most of them revolve around frustration and anger (maybe she's been spending too much time with KING WAYLAND?) but she's well within her rights because the girl's more fucking stupid than freya thought.

and now she's dragging her in the middle of it. which isn't great. she's somewhat known around these places now and she doesn't know if king or she herself scares them more, but no one fucks with her. some, she's sure, still question her loyalties.

and now all eyes are on her when the this woman thanks her for helping.

she snatches 'francie's' wrist and yanks her through the crowd, ignoring the pointed stares. and when they can't be ignored, she's giving some in return. until they're out in the spring night air and freya rounds on her, mouth twisted.

"go. get out."
